Nothing like a wedding surprise to get CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers excited to see what’s going to happen.
Few things compare to a wedding on daytime television as they’re either awesome spectacles or dystopian fiction type of experiences as everything can go wrong and leave the show’s characters in a post apocalyptic type of world.
It’s the former that sets Y&R apart as they rarely have something stop their weddings. They prefer a celebration of life and love, and display the old adage of love conquers all.
This episode is a great example of that as Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) and Jana Hawkes (Emily O’Brian) are intent on getting married despite the surprise guest that rocked Kevin’s mother, Gloria Abbott (Judith Chapman), and his brother, Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc), to the point they nearly stopped the ceremony.
Originally airing on August 18, 2008, this episode is going to bring the feels, so CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers is going to have some snacks and tissues at the ready.

Malibu surprise
Malibu, California is a beautiful place for a wedding, but it’s hard to know who’s going to stop by, especially when the surprise if the individual presiding over the wedding isn’t who they’re supposed to me.
And here we go diving into the mystery that only two in attendance at Kevin and Jana’s wedding recognize, and it’s not for the person’s giving nature.
Michael was the first one to recognize the mad officiating the ceremony as his father, Lowell Baldwin (Michael Gross), who was going by the name River. Michael managed to contain himself for the moment, but Gloria wasn’t so capable.
She demanded to know where River’s been for all these years,
Kevin, not wanting anything to disrupt or stop his wedding, silenced everyone, proclaiming it’s his wedding. Gloria listened, but she was definitely saving up for the first chance she’s have.
The wedding continued, though Michael barely made it through without losing his cool as River concluded the ceremony and Kevin and Jana were wed.
This is where things get interesting.
Corner the guest
With the ceremony over, Gloria cornered her old husband and let him have it, calling him out for taking off and abandoning her and young Michael. She continued telling him that they lived in poverty because of him. She concluded by pointing out how Michael had grown into a good, successful man without his help.
With round one over and feeling some guilt and need to explain things, River headed over to Michael to explain the reason why he left.
He claimed he’d been running from the government for years. This would explain his new name, or reasons behind it.
Michael explained how he was constantly worried about his son, and asked if River ever thought about him?
River told him he was the man he chose to be, not the man Michael needed or wanted.
Michael had spent years wondering who his father really was and where he’d gone, and now he’d finally had some closure.
Talk about an emotional episode, though in the end it was good for Michael and Gloria to confront River. What’s your favorite wedding surprise?
