CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers here with the latest throwback spoiler for an episode coming to us from April 12, 2006. It’s a fun little gem that focuses on secrets, and how one person struggles to let others learn theirs, while another fights to keep their buried in the shadows.
The power of a secret can be an amazing thing, as they can come back to haunt us at any point in our lives, but seem to love popping up just when things are going good. They’re that member of the family we don’t want others to meet but it forces its way into the room and plops down onto the middle of the floor.
Secrets can be anything, and seeing them drawn out is a painfully effective tool storytellers have always used to bring us back to read more of the work. The fact we keep coming back, usually knowing what’s in store for us, is a testament to the story we’ve been told.
Or maybe we just love seeing how something works out for those involved.
Lauren Fenmore (Tracey Bregman) had a secret she desperately wanted to tell her husband, Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc). On the other end of the spectrum, Gloria Abbott (Judith Chapman) was stressed about a problem at Jabot and her other son, Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) wanted to help her, but could he?

Time to grab some drinks and snacks, this is going to be a good one.
Michael, you’re a…
That would’ve been so much easier from the start, but Lauren wanted him to guess her secret. She gave plenty of hints like needing more milk, watching a show about storks, and so on, but he was too engrossed with his work to pay more than a cursory attention.
It didn’t help that Gloria popped in, worried and frantic over a recent tainted batch of Jabot’s Glow Again product that resulted in an accidental fatality. Offering what help they could, Lauren said if it was another saboteur then they needed to pay for the death they caused. Michael agreed that it could evolve into a murder charge, depending on what the investigation unearthed.
Once Gloria left. Lauren had grown tired of Michael not catching her hints, so she told him straight out that they were going to have a baby. He had the typical doubt as to whether he’d be a good father, but Lauren helped him work through that and they closed with a touching scene.
The truth is what you make it
Kevin returned to the Abbott house and found his mother sitting there alone. She was grateful to see him, and she eventually admitted that she was scared.
Kevin told her it’d be best if they told Michael everything, but she refused. She insisted that the secret remain between her and Kevin for the rest of their lives and assured him that there was no evidence that could link the tainted batch to her.
Because of her declaration, Kevin agreed not to tell Michael, but he was still concerned about her well being with the stress of the death and what it would mean to Jabot was having on her.
Nothing like a little mystery to stir the pot, eh?
