Tonight on WWE Raw, we get to deal with the aftermath of one of the dumbest finishes in recent history.
For those that missed Extreme Rules, Sasha Banks and Asuke were in the midst of an awesome championship match that could’ve stolen the show. Until things went from great to outright ugh.
Mist of pain
It came about because Asuka tried to spit her green mist into Banks’ face, but Banks ducked and Asuka caught the referee instead.
Bayley then hit Asuka from behind with a championship belt (Kairi Sane remained outside the ring the whole time for whatever reason), pulled the referee’s shirt off, put it on herself, and counted the pinfall for Bayley.
They then threatened the time keeper and took Asuka’s Raw Women’s Championship belt.
Yep. Vince McMahon was channeling his inner Vince Russo on this one. It’s not as back and the craptastic Rollins/Fiend Hell in a Cell match, but it’s something we’d expect on Raw or Smackdown, not a pay-per-view.
Anywho…
The WWE later clarified that despite leaving with the Raw Women’s Championship belt, Sasha Banks isn’t the champion. Not that it’ll stop her and Bayley as they’re planning a celebration tonight.
Rematch
We feel this will lead to a rematch, because there’s no way Banks will hand the belt over without one, and since there’s no such thing as authority figures anymore to come out and strip someone of the belt or enforce things on camera, the talent will decide things themselves.
Kinda gives a feeling of the inmates running the ship, don’t it?
The logical thought here is that they’ll have the match and Asuka will win and retain her belt. That would make sense, but even if Bayley would somehow be neutralized, Banks will find a way. They’ve both been built up as near unbeatable while Asuka continues to lack dominance.
Because of that, we expect Banks to somehow pull out the victory through nefarious means because that’s what heels do, and that’ll open a new chapter.
Shayna Baszler Factor
This is where we feel Shayna Baszler will follow through on her promise last week and come out to confront Banks and Bayley. It may even happen before the rematch, forcing a triple threat match that should end with Baszler as the champion and start setting up a huge three for the title at SummerSlam.
Unless McMahon wants to tease us some more and pull the prize away from her again.
A really far reaching idea is Bianca Belair and Ruby Riott will join her as partners to recreate her NXT faction on WWE Raw.
