WWE Smackdown Results and Recap (7/31) - Intercontinental Championship - AJ Styles (c) defeated Gran Metalik (w/Lince Dorado)

WWE Smackdown Results and Recap came back from commercial as AJ Styles and Gran Metalik are introduced.

This is going to be a fast paced and exciting match.

WWE Intercontinental Championship – AJ Styles (c) vs. Gran Metalik (w/Lince Dorado)

They took things slow early on with a lockup where Styles back Metalik into the corner and they broke cleanly.

They repeated this, with Styles being backed into the corner, and another clean break followed,

Locking their hands, Styles hit with a series of kicks, then bounced Metalik off the turnbuckle.

A backbreaker soon followed as Styles kept the pace slow. Metalik kicked out of a pin attempt following a suplex.

Style continued to work Metalik over in the corner, then threw him into another one, but Metalik managed to get away from a Styles’ Clash.

Metalik tried to fight back, but Style countered, but missed with an elbow drop and Metalik struck with a hurricanrana.

Style kicked Metalik off the apron, and the champion was back in control until Metalik took his legs out on the apron.

Another hurricanrana sent Styles into the barrier as we headed to commercial.

    Styles fights back

We retuned with both men back in the ring and Metalik climbing into the top rope, but Styles caught him before he was knocked off.

Metalik then hit with a lateral press for a near pinfall.

Metalik started to build some momentum, but he got frustrated when Styles kept countering his high flying offence.

Along those lines, Styles worked on Metalik’s left leg on the rope and with a knee drop.

A knee lock quickly followed and was turned into a single leg crab, but Metalik made it to the ropes to break the hold.

Metalik fought back and nearly got a pinfall with a rollup, and then another one following a DDT.

Metalik hit a missile dropkick for another near pinfall after walking the ropes.

Styles’ working the knee paid off when Metalik failed to pick him up, and Styles countered with a series of strikes to buy himself some time.

Metalik ducked under a Phenomenal Forearm and his a step up kick, but was knocked out of mid air by a blow to his midsection.

Styles rolled Metalik up and locked in his Calf Crusher for the submission win.

This was a pretty good match to start the night off despite not seeing as much aerial offense as we expected.

After the match, Styles caught Dorado with some kicks as he checked on Metalik. A Styles Clash on Dorado followed as Style sent a message in the House the AJ Style built.

    The King speaks

WWE Smackdown Results and Recap find King Corbin as he approached Shorty G from behind backstage while he watched the match.

Corbin chatted with him about the match, and when Gabble questioned him about them being friends now, he said they always were.

Corbin only tormented him to inspire him to do better.

Corbin then mentioned how “bare footed idiots come in” and take opportunities.

Gabble called him out for it, but Corbin promised the King’s ransom was on the table for anyone willing to prove that Riddle doesn’t belong there.
