Despite being choked out and brutalized by Karrion Kross this week on NXT, Danny Burch is up and ready to fight former NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Tony Nese. Nese has been looking to get back into contention for a shot at the Cruiserweight Championship, but can The Premiere Athlete overcome The Governor?
Danny Burch Shines In Singles Too
It’s not every day we see Burch in singles action, making it a special occasion. The tag team specialist is just as tough alone however, and Nese would learn this in the first lockup when Burch fought back hard. While Nese can do it all in the ring, anything outside of high flying will find him equally matched in this one.
Burch would sweep the leg early and before Nese knew it, he was fighting off a single leg boston crab, managing to get to the ropes. Nese would take it to the mat again, but end up face down in a half nelson hold. Burch would consistently get the upper hand on the mat, Nese would need to stop trying to out wrestle him on the mat if he wanted a chance in this one.
Nese would drive Burch into the corner and drive his shoulder into the ribs, getting this match more physical. A back elbow followed by an attempt at a springboard moonsault would fail, but he’d be able to dodge the lariat attempt for a quick combination of kicks which got him a one count, before going back to grappling.
Burch would be sent off the ropes and come back with a shoulder block, then pick Nese out of the sky with an ankle pick, before getting a side headlock applied. It’s a simple move, but one done to perfection. However, Nese would get some space by countering a headlock with a back suplex.
They would trade blows in the ring until Nese would hit the Stun Gun over the top rope, sending Burch throat first. As always, this was followed by a beautiful springboard moonsault, but Burch’s leg was under the bottom rope making the pin invalid.
Tony Nese Shows Why He’s Always Near The Top
Keeping things moving, Nese would whip Burch into the corner, showing some serious aggression. A bodyslam into a body scissors would target the back and ribs of Burch, adding in a chokehold to suck the life out of his opponent.
Burch would rally back, break the hold and hit a big clothesline followed by an enziguri and a vertical suplex for a two count. Explosive offense late in a match is a sign of desperation, but Burch would stay in this match some some heavy strikes, but a Sunset Flip attempt would see Nese roll through and hit a big spin kick to the face. Despite that move ending matches in the past, Burch ain’t going to go down with something like that.
Ariya Daivari Returns To 205 Live
Another kick would follow, and he’d be left in position for a 450 Splash, but Burch would move out of the way. At this time with both men down, Ariya Daivari would run to ringside and attack Oney Lorcan, raking the eyes and throwing him against the plexiglass. This would distract Burch, who came out to check on his partner.
Nese would think about the cheapshot, but hesitated. This allowed Burch to get control with a headbutt, and a rope hung DDT would put Nese down for the fall, pinning a former champion in a huge win.
Nese not taking the cheapshot would cost him the match, a choice he might not make the next time it comes up. This win could put Burch in higher standing for an NXT Cruiserweight Championship match, but first he’ll likely be in the corner of Lorcan for some revenge against Daivari.
