Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae both have title matches this Sunday at NXT Takeover 31, with Gargano facing Damien Priest for the North American Championship, and LeRae set for another classic with Io Shirai. Four days ahead of this match however, they will meet in a mixed tag team match, where the first couple of NXT will have a very large chemistry advantage in their corner in this main event match.
Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae Get Blindsided
As soon as all four hit the ring, a brawl broke out and order would have to be regained. Priest would start this match with Gargano, and Gargano would dodge some big strikes and hit some jabs and chops, using his speed to his advantage. This worked until he ran into a boot to the face. He’d tag his wife in, and Shirai would have to come in.
Shirai & LeRae would duke it out, and LeRae got the upperhand at first before getting kicked in the face. LeRae would avoid a german suplex and go for a roll up, before being hit with a flapjack. Gargano came into the ring to protect his wife, but Priest warded him off. They’d flee the ring together, and Shirai would leap off the shoulders of Priest to the outside, as we went to a commercial break.
Coming back, LeRae had regained control after Gargano protected LeRae from a 619, and LeRae hit a neckbreaker. Shirai would regain control with a shotei into a german suplex, dropping LeRae on her head, and tag Priest in. Gargano came in as well, and he’d be pummelled and thrown across the ring with the Broken Arrow.
The Gargano Way Gets Results
The Razor’s Edge would be set up, but Gargano slipped out and hit a tornado DDT. An enziguri staggered Priest, who tagged Shirai back in. Shirai would springboard in and drop Gargano with a dropkick, and quickly snatch LeRae in a crossface.
Gargano would help his wife break this hold, but Priest was quick to chase him down. This distracted Shirai, who’d nearly been rolled up by LeRae, and hit with the springboard moonsault. Shirai dodged and dropped LeRae for her own moonsault, but Gargano shielded his wife. He’d end up getting dropped and take a moonsault, but Shirai couldn’t pin him. Priest came in and set up the reckoning, but a sneaky low blow from LeRae stunned him, and the one final beat DDT ended this one.
