Back in the attitude era, one faction was made as a launching point for a future star. This was The Brood, a vampire influenced stable consisting of leader Gangrel, Edge, and Christian. Their bloodbaths and incredible entrance music made them fan favorites.
Edge & Christian would go on to reinvent what tag team wrestling in WWE could be, alongside The Dudley Boyz, A.P.A and Team Xtreme. However, the original plan for this group didn’t include Christian at all, as per Gangrel himself. Instead, his role was meant for Christopher Daniels.
Christopher Daniels Was Meant For The Brood
While speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Gangrel would discuss various things, from his fang implants to his wrestling school, but most importantly the history of The Brood.
“They told me from day one it was to help bring Edge in and get him ready. They said he is our future and we are strapping a rocket to him. That was the deal. Edge brought in Christian. That was supposed to be the Chris Daniels spot.”
WWE was dead on with Edge, who would go on to be one of their biggest stars come the 2000’s, becoming a multi-time world champion. However, it’s interesting that Christopher Daniels was considered for this role.
He had been doing dark matches for WWE at the time, and despite being early in his career, showed great promise. If rumors are to be believed, he was also in the running to be the Higher Power of the Ministry of Darkness, until Vince McMahon realized he wasn’t tall enough for the role.
This Would Have Changed How WWE History Was Written
While no doubt Christopher Daniels would have been a great fit in a creepy vampire faction, this would have meant no Edge & Christian as a tag team. Edge & Daniels might have meshed well, but Edge & Christian had chemistry dating back to childhood, and that is what made them so great. Nothing was forced with them, they were as tight knit as a team comes.
Instead, we might have seen Edge get a singles push much earlier, with him never getting as much tag team exposure. Perhaps in this timeline, Christian would go on to be one of the biggest names in Ring of Honor and end up in Impact Wrestling much sooner.
