The two important things on the third episode of WWE Monday Night RAW from January 25, 1993, were the minor beef between Randy Savage and The Repo Man and the conclusion of the Mr. Perfect and Ric Flair beef.
Yeah, that Savage-Repo Man thing is an odd side storyline. Savage was a color commentator on WWE television at the time and Repo Man stole his cowboy hat.
That’s the gist of that story. Savage wants his stuff back, didn’t call the police to file a report, and decided to solve it in the most exhausting way possible to solve such a minor issue—in the ring.
Savage had dozens of those hats with the matching shades and jacket. Just 100-percent Macho Man drip.
Flair and Mr. Perfect were on the same side when The Nature Boy came to the WWE in the summer of 1991. Their match was a loser leaves WWE—perfect for Slick Ric who was leaving the company to head back to Atlanta.
Low-Tier
Let’s go ahead and dust this one off but Kamala ran through the Brooklyn goddamn Brawler. As we all know, Brawler was always enhancement talent in WWE, and Kamala’s gimmick was meant for him to wrestle short matches.
Everything was as it should’ve been and the match was clean. It wasn’t long enough for anyone to botch any move or blow spots.
On top of that, there wouldn’t have been anything to botch or blow. It’s Kamala and the Brooklyn Brawler!
Mid-Tier
The Repo Man’s gear was hideous. Grody gray and are these shin guards?! Why does Repo Man need shin—never mind.
This was a lengthy match clocking in at a little over 13 minutes for Savage’s cowboy hat. It was an above-average WWE television match.
I’ve used this word several times for any mild match with no botches or razzle-dazzle but this was a clean bout. It wasn’t outright boring but it wasn’t anything to write home about.
That said, this was better than our low-tier entry but falls far short of the main event!
Exotic-Tier
The “Loser Leaves the WWF” match between Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect was awesome. It was the best match on WWE Monday Night RAW so far and it only took three shows to get there.
Lots of back and forth action, both men dumped out their arsenal and hit all of their razzle-dazzle. Flair did his whip into the corner spot and Perfect match it with that corner flip bump.
Do you know the velocity that you have to whip a man into the corner for them to flip like Mr. Perfect did?! It defied the physics of an Irish whip into the corner!
Speaking of Perfect, he was busted open early into the match but Flair wasn’t. Odd. Anyway, this was an awesome main event with some stakes, action, and Bobby Heenan was in his Flair cheerleader mode.
His performance wasn’t up there with his “Unfair to Flair” performance from Royal Rumble 1992 but he sold the hell out of how risky this match was for The Nature Boy.
WWE Monday Night RAW #3 Verdict: Mid-Tier (7/10)
Outside of the main event, everything else was OK. That main event was dope, the Savage-Repo Man match was a couple of notches above average but several notches below dope.
The Kamala-Brawler match wasn’t interesting but luckily it was short. It also helped that it was in the middle of the show to break up back to back lengthy matches for a RAW.
Overall, this episode was a strong mid-tier one.
