Tomorrow night at NXT Takeover 31, someone is coming back to NXT. It’s been kept a mystery who they are, but two vignettes have aired, and we know that tomorrow is when they’re choosing to make their impact. All we know at this time is that they were a champion in NXT who left, and is now coming back. Initial theories placed the figure as either Bo Dallas, Bobby Roode or Ember Moon. However, each of these theories have their flaws.
The Issues With These Names, And An Options Fans Missed
Firstly, Roode just returned to Monday Night RAW, taking WWE Champion Drew McIntyre to the limit in a great main event match for the title. Meanwhile, Bo Dallas would be an underwhelming pick, has not done anything on TV in months, and the figure in the video doesn’t match him at all. The only thing in the favor of Dallas is that NXT won’t be held in Full Sail University, so he’d at least have a chance of getting in. Finally, Ember Moon is still rehabbing an injury and isn’t projected to come back just yet.
Fans have seemingly ignored a certain subset of champions however, which leads to another likely name. No one has considered former NXT Tag Team Champions, likely due to a lack of names. Jason Jordan & Corey Graves are medically retired, The Revival are now FTR in AEW alongside Neville now going by PAC, Authors of Pain have been released, etc. However, there is one option left, and that is Chad Gable.
Chad Gable Would Be Perfect For The Current Landscape Of NXT
One of the best technical wrestlers on the main roster, and showing WWE that fans love him with a fantastic run in King Of The Ring should have elevated him to stardom. Sadly, all that work building him up immediately went to waste when he was renamed Shorty G, and flushed down into the undercard of Smackdown Live, only to be brought out when Sheamus needs to kick something really hard.
Gable is a short wrestler placed into the role of tag team specialist on a roster where those two things will rarely work out in your favor. Atleast Cesaro is tall. Gable has had tag team runs with Jason Jordan, Bobby Roode and even Shelton Benjamin, but none of those teams lasted long enough for fans to fall in love with, despite winning championship gold. However, in NXT he’d be right at home.
Gable would still be a bit short on the NXT roster, but you’d be lying if you said his fast paced technical style wouldn’t work wonders in matches like the likes of Finn Balor, Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong, Damien Priest & Cameron Grimes. NXT is home to him, much like it’s been home to the likes of Finn Balor & Tyler Breeze, who returned to great success. Even if he comes back to join the Cruiserweight division and have some classics with Santos Escobar, that’d be better than being Shorty G, professional Sheamus punching bag.
