It’s time to finish up the opening round in the NXT UK Heritage Cup. Trent Seven was one of the first men announced, while Kenny Williams won a triple threat to earn this spot. Seven is one of the fathers of NXT UK, yet hasn’t held an accolade for the brand yet. Williams will have to be on his A-Game, because this might be The Silver Fox’s tournament to win.
Same rules as always usual for this tournament, six rounds, three minutes each, best two out of three falls. A knock out or DQ ends the match right then and there, as shown last week by Dave Mastiff who took Joseph Conners out in the third round.
Saved By The Bell
They’d lock up early, but end up in the ropes, getting a clean break. This is Sevens first match back in the ring, while it’s Williams third, giving him a slight advantage. Some early grappling would benefit Seven, but Williams would fight hard and manage a few pinfall attempts in the first round.
Seven would get back to his feet, and while Williams picked up speed, he was hit with a hip toss. Williams came right back with a kick off the mat, only to be caught with a bodyslam and a leg drop for a near fall. The clock on round one would soon run out, halting the match for twenty seconds. Both men watered up, and were ready to get back into it.
Williams would start to use more of his speed to get the advantage, but the technical skills of Seven would win out at this point. He’d end up in a Straight Jacket hold, and have to fight his way out. Williams would hit a back elbow, use some misdirection and hit a springboard back elbow. Seven would try to drop Williams with a snapmare, but Williams rolled through and hit a big dropkick.
A headlock takeover would maintain the pressure on Williams, but Seven broke free. Seven would shove Williams into the ropes, Williams soaring over him for a sunset flip getting a two count. Williams would have been powerbombed if the round hadn’t ended, truly saved by the bell.
Round three would get underway with Williams tripping Seven up and attacking the left ankle, while stomping on the right ankle. Seven would manage to slip out and get a headlock, only to end up in a headscissors.
Trent Seven Is A Crafty Veteran
Once back to their feet, Williams would try to throw some strikes, only to eat three big chops, and dodge one only to be dropped with a DDT. Seven was now awake and would fight his way to a Seven Star Lariat, getting the first fall of this match.
Williams had to use his twenty seconds to figure out where he even was. Seven went right for another Seven Star Lariat, but Williams got a rollup and was persistent to get a flash pinfall. This persistence would benefit him, as a Double Leg Nelson just 40 seconds into the round would even the score.
Williams would rush right in at the start of the next round and look for another pinfall, before this turned into a strike off. Seven hit a superkick, sending Williams into the ropes to come back with a lariat. Williams would nail the Satellite DDT, but get a two count. Seven would fight back and hit a snap dragon suplex and plant Williams with an Emerald Frosion.
He’d go to the second rope, but Williams intercepted for a top rope Hurricarana! Seven rolled through the impact, and wins the match! Can he overcome Dave Mastiff in the Semi-Finals? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
