Wrestling trademarks are something that can often be hit or miss when it comes to them actually meaning anything. You’ll see wrestlers like Andrade & Charlotte securing trademarks for potential indy runs, FTR try to keep their WWE catchphrases, and Cody trying to get the rights to anything his father named during his time in WCW. But now, we have an interesting move from WWE. They’ve applied to keep the Sin Cara name.
Could Someone Be Put Under The Sin Cara Mask Once Again?
The Sin Cara gimmick has been around for almost a decade now, with the original being Triple H’s first big project in the company. It was an utter failure, as lucha libre star Mistico didn’t take the time to learn the WWE style, learn enough english to plan out good matches, and was all around hard to work with. He’d been released before long, but another man was put under the mask, and had better success, before ultimately being released last year. Both Sin Cara’s are now wrestling in Mexico, and having a fine time outside of WWE.
However, if you can put two different people under an admittedly awesome mask, why not a third? WWE has a ton of talented high fliers who could make great use of the gimmick, and help to build up it’s legacy. The 2nd Sin Cara, Hunico, gave us plenty of great moments during his time under the mask, especially as part of Lucha Dragons with Kalisto. This is a legacy worth continuing.
This Would Be A Boon For Ricochet Especially
While Ricochet has an easy claim at being one of the best high fliers in the world, and also has become all around great? He’s had a hard time bringing much personality to WWE. This was fine in NXT, where in-ring skill usually takes precedent, and he’d even become NXT North American Champion. He achieved some success as WWE United States Champion, and got a shot at the WWE Championship, but has since fallen deep down into the depths of Main Event.
But who needs personality when you have a cool mask? This is what made Prince Puma in Lucha Underground such a good character. Just get Ricochet a mouthpiece, and let him do what he does best in the ring, and suddenly Sin Cara could be a main event player on Monday Night RAW.
Do you think WWE has any future plans of the Sin Cara brand, or are they just ensuring no one else can use it? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
