UFC News: Santos Looking To Further Light Heavyweight Claims
Santos is already ranked as the number one light heavyweight in the UFC rankings, and he will be looking to further those credentials with a huge win this weekend.
He will be looking to overcome his defeat for the last time that he was in the octagon, with that bout coming over a year ago against Jon Jones. Jones won that fight in July 2019 by split decision after a pulsating five rounds of action, which also saw Jones hold on to his light heavyweight championship.
There will be the interesting element that Santos has been prepared for this fight for a number of months, as it was originally set to take place a couple of months ago.
That initial date was cancelled after Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19. Santos has been excellent since moving into the light heavyweight division, as he has beaten all three prior opponents to Jones via TKO/KO.
UFC News: All Brazilian Affair
Teixeira is also from Brazil, and will be looking to further his claims for a future championship opportunity. He is currently ranked as the third best fighter in the light heavyweight division, and has been in excellent form in the octagon over the past 12 months.
This will be the second time that Teixeira has fought this year, as he beat Anthony Smith earlier in the year by TKO. That fight took place in May, and saw Teixeira win the performance of the night award.
That was the fourth consecutive fight that Teixeira had won, as he also beat Nikita Krylov, Ion Cutelaba and Karl Robinson. The last defeat that he suffered in the octagon came against Corey Anderson, as he lost via unanimous decision. Teixeira has only lost three times by knockout, and has won 31 of his professional fights.
