Ever since winning the tournament to become the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, Santos Escobar has been on top of his game. He has Legado Del Fantasma members Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde at his beck and call, and is wanting more control by the day. So with the NXT North American Championship currently held by major underdog Leon Ruff, Escobar has taken notice and is ready to add to his gold collection if given the chance.
Santos Escobar Is A True Champion
This all started with Santos Escobar on Twitter. He’d post a picture of himself and his championship, with the following caption.
“THIS is how a true champion looks; pride, confidence, swag, elegance… Leon Ruff you are, indeed, a JOKE, and a very bad one, You don’t deserve to be a WWE superstar, let alone be the WWE NXT North American Champion, so… prove me wrong. #AnytimeAnywhere”
Ruff replied with a very simple statement. “Does a true champion means having your two lackeys do all your fighting for you…” This isn’t accepting the challenge, but he’s poking another dangerous bear, something that could be his downfall. Raul Mendoza took some offense to this, and reminded everyone that he destroyed Ruff on an episode of 205 Live a few months back.
Leon Ruff Has A Lot On His Plate
Leon Ruff already has Johnny Gargano & Damien Priest on his plate as he looks to defend his championship against both at NXT Takeover WarGames. It won’t be an easy win, but let’s say he manages to retain, likely with Priest taking out Gargano, and Ruff stealing a pinfall.
You might as well just add Santos Escobar to his list as a future championship match. With Ruff meeting the 205 Live weight limit with ease, it could even be a winner takes all situation for both the NXT Cruiserweight and North American Championships. That would make this match feel bigger than it actually would be. This match could even take place on this week’s episode of NXT, and change the landscape of WarGames.
Many have wanted Escobar to drop the NXT Cruiserweight Championship and move into the North American or even NXT Championship title pictures. This could be a way for NXT to do this, while keeping the huge Cruiserweight unification match between Escobar and Jordan Devlin on the table.
