It has been two years since Roman Reigns had to battle with a testing foe, not in the ring but outside of it. That being his battle with leukaemia for what was the second time.
Roman Reigns Marks His Victory Over Leukaemia
In a post to his fans on Twitter, he marked his victory by thanking God: “Wake me up, God. And I will handle the rest. #BelieveInTheFight.” But at the time, Roman was oblivious to what was about to happen. He had no idea that his whole life was going to be turned upside down and that he would be withdrawn from a sport that he had invested so much time in.
In a previous episode of Chronicle on WWE, he outlined how it was all out of the blue. He said: “I was at a live event, I believe it was either a Saturday or a Sunday, and I just remember one of our doctors telling me that something was going on with my blood tests. And they wanted to do another one because they thought something was off.
“So I went in and did another one, and then I remember going to TV on Monday. I remember one of the refs coming up to me, and usually, they’ll be like ‘you’re needed in TR [Talent Relations], Mark [Carrano] wants to see you.’ And I’m like ‘ah yeah, whatever. I’ll be there when I get there.”
So when the diagnosis came, it hit Roman and the wrestling fans really hard. That is why he has decided to return with a bang and promised to leave no stone unturned. He had sacrificed a lot when he had to walk away from the wrestling world and who could forget? After all, he had to step aside and renounce his Universal Champion status which he had worked so hard for.
At the time, it got very emotional which was understandable. He said: “I’ve been living with leukemia for 11 years, and unfortunately it’s back…I’m going to have to relinquish the Universal Championship.” Roman is a fighter and we have learnt that nothing will get in the way of him achieving his goals. Long may that continue.
