Hot on the heels of the biggest UFC event of the year so far this past weekend, Dana White announced that the biggest star in the company could be set to return later in the year. The UFC President claimed in the press conference after UFC 260 that the date for the fight could be agreed very soon, with UFC 264 the likely card that the headline fight will main event.
It will be the much-anticipated third bout between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor, as both stars have won one fight apiece so far.
UFC News: UFC 264 Could Be When It Takes Place
White revealed the news that UFC 264 is the target for the trilogy in the press conference after Stipe Miocic’s knockout defeat against Francis Ngannou this past weekend. Furthermore, he planned out a potential roadmap to the fight taking place, with the card set to take place on the 10th of July at the T-Mobile Arena. However, White stopped short on admitting the fight was definitely happening on that date, and insisted that it’s just a plan at this stage.
It was also revealed in the press conference that the possible stand in for the event should either fighter not make it could be Justin Gaethje. Gaethje hasn’t fought since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov by submission at UFC 254, and has been frustrated by the lack of movement surrounding a future fight. White admitted he understood the frustration in the press conference, but admitted that he still has his place in the title picture.
