Jake Paul brutally put Ben Askren to the sword with a first-round TKO, but was the boxing match too good to be true?
Was Jake Paul v Ben Askren Fixed?
Well, that is what seems to be doing the rounds on social media. While Jake is no stranger to the boxing ring, given that he does have some experience albeit three fights, he was taking on a seasoned MMA pro. And yet, the Youtuber hardly broke a sweat with Ben looking strangely fatigued.
Fans began to worry that this was a fix. One user wrote: “Paul v. Askren looked fixed. Askren got the paycheck, and Paul gets to tell himself he’s the toughest guy with half a beard you’ll ever see. Rigged fight, for sure.” While another said: “This Jake Paul V. Ben Askren fight is probably the most fixed fight I’ve ever seen in my life, lmao.”
Youtubers and boxing are no strangers to controversy, though. Adam Saleh, who has over 4 million Youtube subscribers, was recently exposed for paying his opponent Marcus in order to lose. What made matters worse was that the victory occurred in a charity event, which turned into a publicity stunt over how great Adam had become.
Jake’s conduct post-match looked far from a man, who had fixed a boxing match. In an interview with Triller, he said: “I told you I was going do it in the first round. I told you I’m a real fighter. I don’t know how many times I’ve got to prove myself that this is for real.” Ben, for his part, was fully complimentary of his opponent.
Prior to the build-up, he had promised so much, but inside the ring it was clear he no longer had the hunger. After all, it only took one punch to kill his spirit. And post-match, his comments reflected that. He stated: “I was definitely overreacting to his feints. I took it seriously. I have no excuses.”
Given that Logan Paul will take on Floyd Mayweather, Jake has called out Tyson Fury’s younger brother Tommy Fury. This would be another step up in competition as Tommy is a full-time professional boxer. But given by how his performances have been so far, who are we to doubt him.
