Joanna Jedrzejczyk On New UFC New Contract: “It’s Not about the Money, But It’s Always About the Money”

Joanna Jedrzejczyk wants to make sure that her next contract with the biggest MMA organization in the world will be lucrative.

The former strawweight champion of the organization is preparing to travel to the U.S. to once again prepare for her appearances in the MMA cage. The fighter hasn’t fought in the octagon since her spectacular clash with Weili Zhang, which she lost by judges’ decision. In an interview with MMA Fighting the Pole spoke about her current relationship with the organization and her expectations for her next contract.

“It’s not about the money, but it’s always about the money” – Jedrzejczyk on UFC contract

“It’s a silly thing to say. It’s not about money, but it’s always about money. I don’t have to risk my life and health for money during fights anymore. Of course I love it, but I’m older now. I can’t fight just for the idea. There has to be money behind it. I made good money in the UFC, but I feel that after my last fight it doesn’t matter. Of course I love the fact that the fans were going crazy. I lost the fight, but I won a lot more.

I can easily make that kind of money outside the octagon without risking my life and health. You guys know what I’m talking about. It’s not about the finances, but at the end of the day it’s always about the money.”

The fighter believes that she has always been treated well by the UFC and doesn’t intend to think about leaving the organization. However, she now faces her last fight on her current contract and believes she can do a lot of other things than fight in the octagon.

“I’m a UFC soldier. We’ll see. They’ve always treated me well, I’m not thinking about leaving. However, this is my last fight on my current contract. We’ll see, in the past I’ve won, lost, but I always leave my health in the octagon or training. I give fights that people want to see. Fans want to see me perform. I don’t know, I never thought about fighting outside the UFC. I can do a lot of other things outside the octagon, but I just love it. It’s what I want to do, but I know I can make money in other ways too, and a lot of it.”

The 33-year-old Jedrzejczyk (16-4 MMA) hasn’t fought in the “Ultimate Fighting Championship” octagon since her spectacular fight with Weili Zhang at UFC 248. According to many experts, the fight between the Pole and the Chinese woman was the best show in the history of women’s MMA. The former strawweight champion believes she is the best fighter in the division and wants to fight for the championship belt. The current title holder is her former rival, who she lost to twice in the past – Rose Namajunas. The American at UFC 261 defeated Zhang by brutal KO in the first round of the bout.
