In a shocking twist, following the latest batch of cuts from the WWE roster which include six members of the 205 Live roster, the show lives on. However, it’s being used in a much different way this week. Similar to how the show was run during the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, 205 Live is being used to push the next NXT Breakout Tournament forward, and will contain four new names in two qualifying matches this week.
Two New Names In Joe Gacy & Andre Chase On 205 Live
Out of the four men, only two have had a televised match with WWE. Guru Raaj made his debut at WWE India Special: Superstar Spectacle when he faced then NXT Champion, Finn Balor. His opponent in the qualifying matches was the debuting Andre Chase, who will be familiar to fans of Evolve as Harlem Bravado. He signed with the company in February 2021, and is finally getting his chance to shine.
The second name that fans of WWE could be familiar with is Desmond Troy. Troy has faced names like Sheamus, Seth Rollins & Bobby Lashley and is a promising prospect for the company. His last match was against Karrion Kross, back in December. He’s yet to make much of a splash, and this might not be his chance either. Troy is set to face former three time CZW Champion, Joe Gacy. Gacy signed with WWE back on October 8th, 2020 alongside other members of the Evolve roster which included former NXT North American Champion, Leon Ruff.
Using The Time Slot To Showcase More Of NXT
Considering 205 Live is down to just four roster members, and that two of them were in action on this past week’s episode of NXT? We might be done with 205 Live as we know it. A simple name change is all that is needed to change the perception of the show, which essentially this week was NXT: Dark.
At the very least, these qualifying matches have given 205 Live another week of life. Do you think being an extra bit of time for NXT will be the best way for WWE to use the 205 Live timeslot? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
