UFC lightweight fighter Luis Pena was arrested in Florida on Friday. He is charged with robbery, battery and criminal mischief, according to Coral Springs police records.
Pena already had a warrant for his arrest, but was taken into custody after police received an anonymous call reporting his whereabouts. Christian Swinson, a spokesman for the police department, told MMA Fighting what happened.
Luis Peña arrested for robbery, assault and criminal mischief
“We actually got a call from another county police department to go look for him. From there, there was an independent person who told us exactly where he was. We apprehended him based on the warrant that already existed against him.”
Two of the charges, burglary and assault, are designated as “pending trial.” According to Swinson, this means that Pena could have failed to appear at the preliminary hearing, or that the charges could have been added later. Either reason triggered the issuance of the arrest warrant.
“Probably whoever made the anonymous call was involved in the case and wants him to go to jail, Swinson said.”
First Round Management, the agency representing Pena, has declined to talk about the matter. Just a couple of days ago, the fighter had admitted to dealing with mental health issues.
People aren’t comfortable talking about this, but I have been going through serious mental health issues my entire life and have finally gained the strength to get and accept the help I’ve needed for a long time. If you’re struggling take it from me its okay to reach out

The type of theft with which Pena is charged is classified as a third-degree felony in Florida. Therefore, it is punishable by up to five years in prison and $5,000 in fines. Both the sentence and fines can be increased if the defendant used any weapon.
We last saw Pena in the octagon in April at UFC Vegas 24, where he defeated Alexander Munoz by split decision. Before that, he was coming off a loss to Khama Worthy and a suspension after testing positive for marijuana in 2020. Luis became popular after his stint on The Ultimate Fighter 27 and has a 3-2 record inside UFC.
