Since winning his championship in an open challenge against Santos Escobar, KUSHIDA has mainly defended in open challenges. Anyone can step up and has a chance to become champion tonight. It will be the third defense for the reign of KUSHIDA, and as the 205 Live roster grows with additions like Asher Hale, Ari Sterling and Greyson Waller, it is hard to call just who will answer the call tonight. However, this week it’s Trey Baxter.

    Trey Baxter Make Their Debut

Trey Baxter is the former Black Christian, a fan favorite from Game Changer Wrestling. One of the top high fliers in the world and is making his debut tonight. KUSHIDA had no chance to prepare for him, but he knows that anyone who is known for high flying, you keep them grounded. Baxter would get a near fall off a roll up before grabbing a headlock, but KUSHIDA fought free and went after the arm.

KUSHIDA would be shoved off and hit with a running hurricanrana, before Baxter nailed a springboard elbow butt to send him outside. Baxter teased a dive but KUSHIDA wasted no time getting hold of him in the ring. A scrap near the ropes led to KUSHIDA back on the outside, where Baxter soared over the top rope with a Fosbury Flop.

At this time, Kyle O’Reilly would make his way to the top of the ramp. At the coming Great American Bash event, he will face Adam Cole one on one, but was told to find an opponent for next week. We’d go to a commercial break, but O’Reilly had a rich history with KUSHIDA back in NJPW making this interesting.

    KUSHIDA Retains His Gold

Back from the break, O’Reilly was still scouting at ringside, but in the ring Baxter nailed a spinning wheel kick. KUSHIDA fought back with a Manhattan Drop before the hip toss and cartwheel dropkick. Baxter dodged a kick to the arm and the handspring back elbow, before hitting a handspring gamiguri.

KUSHIDA punched Baxter in the jaw, before running into a standing Spanish Fly in the middle of the ring. Baxter followed up with a springboard 450 splash, but only got a two count. KUSHIDA would regain control with an armbreaker off the top rope, before applying the Hoverboard Lock for the win.

Trey Baxter gave a great performance in this match, pulling off some impressive moves and reminding of Will Ospreay. KUSHIDA gave another solid performance as champion, but Baxter got most of the shine here. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)

Following the match, O’Reilly would lay down a challenge to KUSHIDA for next week, and KUSHIDA quickly accepted. Can KUSHIDA beat O’Reilly? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
