‘Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s star, Kendall Jenner no longer wants to be a reality star. She distanced herself from her family’s reality show when she became a model. However, being a model also brought its own shares of anxieties.
At a point, Kendall was at the top of the fashion world, but then she was replaced by contemporaries like Bella and Gigi Hadid. The KUWTK star is now setting trying her luck in the alcohol industry. She recently launched her own line of 818 Tequila and partied with her friends despite the current controversy surrounding the new brand.
Kendall Jenner’s 818 Tequila Launch Party
Kendall’s Friday, May 21 818 Tequila launch party was filled with celebrities like Kate Hudson, Doja Cat, Katy Perry, Travis Scott, Justin Bieber, and Hailey Bieber. Kendall shared photos from the event to Instagram. She called the launch an incredible experience” in which she learned about “this beautiful place, its beautiful culture, and the beautiful people!”
Every guest had their choice of the reality star’s three 818 tequilas: 818 Añejo, Blanco, and Reposado. They also went home with gift bags that included 818-branded bucket hats and shot glasses. Kendall’s launch party included plenty of games, drinks, and food.
Kendall founded her tequila brand after she went on a trip to Mexico with TikTok influencer, Hannah Farrell. Her big sister, Khloe called her “the tequila queen” in an October 2020 Instagram post, and rumors started going round that the model was getting into the alcohol business. On February 16, Kendall wrote that she went on a four-year-long journey that finally led her to “create the best tasting tequila.”
Did Kendall Copy Another Tequila Brand
Kendall Jenner has been accused of Cultural Misappropriation. She posted a picture and video promo for her 818 Tequila to Instagram. The shoot was done on an agave dark in Jalisco Mexico, where the KUWTK star started her new brand. In the ad, Kendall is riding a horse and drinking a bottle of tequila of tequila in the back of a pickup truck. She wears a cotton shirt over a tank top and jeans and paired her look with a cowboy hat. Kendall wears her signature dark brown hair in braided pig tails.
Critics have ackles her ads, “migrant chic” and “tone-deaf.” They think the new brand stereotypes Mexican farmers. However, her loyal fans have defended her, saying that a lot of celebrities have founded their own tequila business.
That’s not all. A Texas company has claimed that Kendall’s tequila is too similar to theirs. On Instagram, Tequila 512 CEO Nick Matzorkis shared the similarities between his brand and Kendall’s. “Is that you or did someone copy you?” he wrote. The post was removed shortly after, but not before The U.S Sun captured it. Nick told KXAN that he wasn’t accusing her of copying his brand. He said he only wanted to “point out obvious undeniable similarities” between both brands.
The supermodel has not reacted to the claims. However, she has turned off the comments on all Instagram posts that talk about her new brand.
