UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman makes it clear that he is not a fan of Irishman Conor McGregor.During an interview for ESPN, Usman was asked about possible upcoming opponents. As one might expect from anyone who is not well versed in UFC current events, Kamaru was asked about popular names, beyond athletic merit.
The Nigerian admitted he would consider a third fight against Jorge Masvidal. But not in the immediate future. Kamaru says he is open to the fight, but only if Masvidal gets some wins and proves he deserves another chance.
Kamaru Usman says Conor McGregor is now just a random talker
Similarly, he also talked about Nate Diaz and was very interested in that fight, as long as Diaz manages to beat the dangerous Leon Edwards at UFC 263 on June 12. Strangely, he wasn’t asked about Edwards, despite his nine-fight unbeaten streak.
Who he was asked about, even though he’s not competing in the same division, was Conor McGregor. Kamaru’s answer was quite interesting as he stated that the Irishman is no longer up to the task.
“Right now he’s nothing but a talker. Just a loudmouth. Now he talks more than he fights. He’s a guy who can compete, but he’s not the champion Conor McGregor. If he wasn’t Conor and he hadn’t done the things he’s done, he’d just be a random fighter. He’s just a random fighter, but with a lot of money and a lot of hype and notoriety.”
One might think that Usman’s words are aimed at seeking the million-dollar fight against Conor McGregor. However, the 170-pound champion claims to have no interest in challenging the Irishman. Although he admits he would not shy away from the fight.
“Conor McGregor is not someone I would challenge, ever. If he wants to fight me, he knows where to find me. He can call me and we’ll make that fight happen.”
