UFC welterweight contender Stephen Thompson explained why it would be a “bad idea” for Jake Paul to fight Tyron Woodley in a boxing match.
Thompson has fought Woodley twice in UFC, the first time he fought to a majority draw and then lost a majority decision in the rematch, so he knows “The Chosen One” better than anyone. Woodley recently completed his UFC contract and is now a free agent.
Stephen Thompson explains why it would be a “bad idea” for Jake Paul to box Tyron Woodley
One of the fights that fans and the media have discussed for him is a boxing match against Paul. At this point, we’re not sure if this fight will end up happening, but based on their previous confrontation, it seems Woodley and Paul are interested in it.
It wouldn’t be good for Paul to fight Woodley
Speaking with James Lynch , Thompson was asked what he thought about a possible boxing match between Paul and Woodley. Despite the fact that Woodley has lost her last four fights in the octagon and Vicente Luque just got finished in his last fight, Thompson is confident that it would be a tough night for Paul if they end up fighting in the boxing ring.
“I think it would be a bad idea for Jake. Tyron Woodley’s boxing is very good. He doesn’t have to worry about takedowns or kicks to the face or anything like that, he can just concentrate on boxing. Tyron’s got some power, boy. Tyron’s got some power. If Jake goes down that road, which I don’t think he will, if he was smart, he wouldn’t want to box Tyron Woodley.”
With Woodley now a free agent, we’re likely to find out where his new home is in the coming weeks, and this fight with Paul looks like a possibility, even if it’s a tough fight for Paul.
Tyron Woodley wants to avenge his teammate’s loss to Jake Paul, who was in Ben Askren’s corner when he was knocked out in the first round by Paul in the Triller Fight Club main event in April, which took place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Although he wasn’t the one competing that night, the former UFC welterweight champion got into a backstage altercation with Paul and professional boxer J’Leon Love, who was part of Paul’s entourage. Former two-time UFC champion Daniel Cormier came to Woodley’s defense and even had his own run-in with Paul during the UFC 261 fights in Jacksonville, Florida.
Paul has managed to irritate many people in the combat sports world and Woodley wants a piece of him. With Paul’s brother, Logan Paul, set to box Floyd Mayweather on June 6 at Hard Rock Stadium, Woodley accused him of stealing his brother’s shine when he snatched Mayweather’s hat , which led to a brawl.
Woodley criticized Paul for going after the likes of Dillon Danis, who is not known for his punching, and believes he is afraid to fight a real power puncher. Now that he is a free agent , Woodley believes he is the perfect next opponent for Paul.
