Max Griffin knows that in order for one fighter to win, another must lose. That’s why he plans on winning at the expense of his opponent this Saturday night, with full intention to take the massive opportunity this fight affords him by the horns.
“It’s interesting. It’s a super big deal. It’s a super big deal, right? But at the same time it’s not a big deal. It’s a fight. But I’m glad they’re letting me fight in front of all these people.
Max Griffin SLAMS Carlos Condit: “I’m going to take all his fans!”
It’s going to be good for me and my stock. I’m going to take all his fans when I beat him.”
The undercard for any McGregor fight is a big deal, as the Irishman remains the UFC’s biggest (and possibly their only) superstar. Carlos Condit was once an interim welterweight champion, and the opportunity to take such a big scalp on such a big night is not lost on Max Griffin.
Griffin has wanted to fight Carlos Condit ever since UFC Vegas 13, when he elbowed Ramiz Brahimaj so hard his ear nearly came off his head. It has taken several months for this fight to finally come together for Griffin.
“I called him out after I beat Ramiz, took his ear. I thought it would be a good match-up, but they [the UFC] didn’t like it.
They wanted him to fight Matt Brown. It was an old fogey kind of fight. An old legend kind of fight.
Not that they’re that old, but they seem old. They have a lot of mileage, you know?
Once they gave him Matt Brown, I thought it was over. Lo and behold they call me and say, ‘Do you want to fight Carlos Condit at UFC 264?’
I said, f**k yeah!” Griffin is looking forward to the bout, with two consecutive finishes behind him, and will want to increase that number to three. He credits this recent success to a change in teams and coaches.
“Really it’s my mental coach, Danny Patterson. That’s what I really attribute all that to. Also going to Team Alpha Male.
I have a strong mind, but I was putting too much pressure on myself. He really got me to see what I need to do to be the best version of myself.
That’s what I’ve been working on exclusively. I’ve had him for these last two fights.”
His game plan mostly consists having a good time: “When I’m having fun and enjoying myself, that’s when I’m at my best.
Took the man’s [Brahimaj’s] ear off. That’s the first example of me having a good time.”
What do you think? Does Max Griffin increase his win streak to three, adding Condit (and his fans) to his list of finishes? Will Carlos Condit hold fast? Let us know what you think in the comments?
