Former featherweight champion Max Holloway has decided not to wait for the winner between Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega.
This Wednesday it was confirmed that Max Holloway will face Yair Rodriguez in the main event of the July 17 card. The information was announced by ESPN, the UFC’s television network partner, citing Dana White as a source. At the moment the promoter has not yet made the official announcement, but the fight is a fact.
Max Holloway vs. Yair Rodriguez will be the main fight on July 17.
The venue for the event is not yet known, but considering it will be a Fight Night, it will most likely be at UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Holloway shined in January by dominantly defeating Calvin Kattar via decision. In doing so, he snapped his negative streak following two losses to Alexander Volkanovski. Rodriguez has not fought since October 2019 when he defeated Jeremy Stephens by decision. The bout was a rematch to the fight that ended up being null and void after an eye poke by Yair did not allow Jeremy to continue in the contest.
After the addition of the main event fight between Holloway and Rodriguez, the July 17 event would look like this:
Max Holloway vs. Yair Rodriguez
Marion Reneau vs. Miesha Tate
Amir Albazi vs. Ode Osbourne
Sergey Morozov vs. Khalid Taha
Guram Kutateladze vs. Don Madge
Cameron Else vs. Aaron Phillips
Herbert Burns vs. Billy Quarantillo
Francisco Figueredo vs. Malcolm Gordon
Anderson dos Santos vs. Miles Johns
Alan Baudot vs. Rodrigo Nascimento
Phil Hawes vs. Deron Winn
Islam Makhachev vs. Thiago Moises
Mateusz Gamrot vs. Jeremy Stephens
Alan Baudot vs. Rodrigo Nascimento
Amanda Lemos vs. Montserrat Ruiz
Abubakar Nurmagomedov vs. Daniel Rodriguez
EDIT: Max Holloway was forced to pull out, and the fight has been postponed with a date to be discussed at this time.
