As of now, the Undertaker’s final match was the cinematic Boneyard Match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36.
Afterwards, the Undertaker literally rode off into the night on his motorcycle, but this is only part of the story.
Styles shared his appreciation with working with the Undertaker and to do something different for the Dead Man’s final match on Ryan Satin’s Out of Character.
Appreciation

“I’m proud that I had the opportunity to work with the Undertaker. It was icing on the cake to have one of the better cinematic matches that WWE has done. I was very proud of it and I’m sure Taker was very proud of it. It was one of those things where you weren’t sure how fans would take it, but it was exactly what we both needed. I was certainly pleasantly surprised when they said, ‘You’re doing a Boneyard match and it’s going to be different.’ Okay, cool. Not a match in front of nobody? Perfect. It was exactly what we envisioned. I would have loved to have the opportunity to work with him before he retired because we gelled so well in that Boneyard match.”
What made this match special from a fan’s perspective was that it was like watching a movie with a decent budget and it was one of the more enjoyable cinematic experiences in the last year.
But they weren’t done and Styles and the Undertaker took a step further following their match as they performed a type of jersey swap.
A step further
When it came to exchanging gifts, Styles said:
“I called his wife [Michelle McCool] and was like, ‘What does he want? I need to get him something.'” “She was like, ‘Give him your gloves, that would mean a lot to him if you signed your gloves.’ Michelle hooked me up. Hopefully, that was a gift he enjoyed. He actually sent his gloves to me with a very nice thank you letter.”
This is the type of thing we really enjoy hearing about. It’s up there with Peyton Manning writing letters to his opponents when they retired as an ultimate form of respect.
It’s great seeing two of the greats have so much respect for each other and this match was the perfect way for the Undertaker to close out his in ring career.
