For weeks now, we’ve been seeing rumors aplenty about CM Punk finally returning to the ring for AEW. They’ve fed into the speculation, especially by making a major event tonight set in Chicago. There is a media scrum after the event as well, signalling something big. The stars have aligned, but is Punk actually here? And is he the only surprise that AEW has up their sleeves?
CM Punk Is In The Building!
As the show began, they’d say the biggest announcement in AEW history is going to start the show. The CM Punk chants were deafening, and Cult of Personality would hit. Graphics said Punk, and the man himself would hit the ramp. He’d take some time to take the moment in, and CM Punk has arrived in All Elite Wrestling. Aside from some masked indie shows and WWE Backstage, this is the first time Punk has been involved with wrestling.
He’d dive into the hometown crowd like a kid into a ball pit, clearly happy to be back. Seven years in the making, he’s finally back. After letting his theme song play full through, he’d still go hug some fans at ringside, before finally getting into the ring. A commercial would break the action up, but Exclaibur noted they’d be back in 90 seconds.
And He Has Something To Say!
It’s been a long time since he’s been between the ropes with a crowd this big, and the moment wasn’t lost on him. He’d say that they made him feel like Britt Baker in Pittsburgh. Punk is winging it, because he didn’t know what he’d feel when this moment came. However, he hears the crowd loud and clear. For the last seven years, he’s heard the chants.
There’s good news and bad news. Bad news is that everything can’t happen tonight, but the good news is he has the time and isn’t going anywhere. He’s here to stay. The reason it took him so long was that he needed the time to heal, a change of scenery and more. He couldn’t stay in the place that had him sick in the first place.
He’d sit in the ring and has a story to tell. Back when he was in Ring of Honor, he cried on his way to the ring on his last night. It was the same feeling tonight. He cried because it was home, and he knew his next journey wasn’t easy. On August 13th, 2005 he left pro wrestling. Now August 20th, 2021? He’s back.
He even has a first opponent in mind, and that’s Darby Allin. Punk knows he’s tough, but he wants to find out how tough. So Allin is first on the list, and it’s set for All Out. What other matches do you want to see Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
