Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones remains focused on moving up to heavyweight. However, he’s in no rush and now claims it will take another year to do so.
In a series of posts on his Twitter account, Jones admitted that his plan isn’t going as well as he had hoped. Apparently Jon has run into some obstacles in his muscle gain process. The fighter pointed out that his build has always been like this and that has complicated the process for him.
Jon Jones announces he will postpone his return to the octagon to 2022
Man I’m telling you, I’ve always been the skinny one in my family. Becoming a proper heavy weight is a lot more difficult than I had ever anticipated. I want to do it right the first time. https://t.co/VjnZkh0q6N

In addition, Jones stressed that for him there is no benefit to rushing his transition. In fact, he believes it would be his opponents who might have some advantage.
Honestly I feel like the only people that it benefits, me jumping in their early are the other heavy weights. The way I’m training, I’m gonna be a real problem this time next year. I’m comfortable enough to wait and that’s exactly what I’ll do

Jon’s words prompted questions from fans about his plan to extend his inactivity. Jones reiterated his intention and hoped that people would still be interested in seeing him compete.
Yes, I got a feeling you guys will still be around. The sport should be bigger than ever by then.. Always looking on the bright side https://t.co/YwB9nGudMb
