It’s time for the first semi-final match in the NXT Breakout Tournament. On paper, this one is a total mismatch. We have the high flying Trey Baxter taking on the 405lb Odyssey Jones. Baxter was able to overcome the bigger Joe Gacy to get here, so can he continue to build himself up as a giant killer?
The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Fall? Not Tonight
Baxter would go behind on Jones and try to turn this into a wrestling match, but was easily shoved off. Jones would corner Baxter, who blocked a back suplex and went for a roll up, but Jones was too heavy to pull over. Baxter hit a flying forearm to stun Jones and hit some quick strikes, before Jones grabbed him and threw him with a big slam.
Jones would get Baxter as he went for a springboard attempt, throwing him across the ring. Baxter tried for a sleeper hold, but was thrown away with ease. Some quick enziguri blows would be followed by a DDT and a spin kick for a two count. Baxter went up top, but missed the dive and was crushed with an Avalanche before being slammed for the win.
Odyssey Jones Punches His Ticket To The Finals
This big win sets up Jones for the finals of the tournament. Since his debut, he’s become a major fan favorite within the Capitol Wrestling Center, and after the match he’d get a quick interview at ringside. He was feeling great, and is so excited to make it to the finals. A shout out to his mother would end the interview, and that’s a classic babyface move.
With infectious energy, massive size and speed to match? Jones is set to be a major star for WWE. He fits the mold that the future of NXT will be all about, and very well could be groomed as a future champion already. His next opponent will be either Carmelo Hayes or Duke Hudson, with their match coming next week.
