Raquel Gonzalez was able to take out Daktoa Kai at NXT Takeover 36, and is now riding solo as NXT Women’s Champion. Tonight, she has what is on paper an easy match against Jessi Kamea, but with Franky Monet & Robert Stone at ringside – Gonzalez could get a taste of her own medicine. Monet is looking for a title shot in the coming weeks, and this could be the first step in getting Gonzalez to realize she’s the real threat.
Jessi Kamea Shows Her Skills, But It’s Not Enough
Kamea has really been shining after taking some influence from Monet, but it’s likely not enough to stop Gonzalez. This one was a non-title match, but a win from Kamea would shoot her up the rankings… though that is unlikely. Gonzalez would throw Kamea across the ring to start, before going for a suplex. Kamea landed on her feet, before being rammed into the corner with ease.
Gonzalez would hit a sidewalk slam before the twisting senton bomb in the corner, with Kamea breaking the pin with the ropes. Kamea would go after the legs of Gonzalez, trying to cut the champion down, and it was working. The left leg was being picked apart, but not enough for Gonzalez to not hit a dropkick and Alley-Oop onto the top rope. One big powerbomb later, and this one was over.
Samoa Joe Gives Some Answers
Last week, Samoa Joe made it clear that he fears no one in the locker-room. Tonight he will sit down with Wade Barrett to perhaps give some insight on who he’s looking at as a potential challenger. The question however was on the expectations of his reign.
He wants to redefine what being NXT Champion means again. Karrion Kross was a menace, and Joe wants to be a champion that NXT can be proud of. His work ethic was insane on the week he won the title back, as he fly back from Vegas where he was helping to hold WWE try-outs, and showed up and still got the win. The precedent was set, and now he will hold it.
