For the first time in seven years, CM Punk will lace up his boots and enter the wrestling ring once again. This is something fans have been practically begging for, and tonight it finally happens. He will be facing one of the up and coming stars of AEW, that being former TNT Champion Darby Allin. Punk doesn’t know if he is still able to on in the ring. He doesn’t know if this is the right move. But the AEW fans have been nothing but welcoming, and he will make his best effort to be the Best In The World once again.
CM Punk Is Ready To Go
While Darby Allin got a good reaction, the roof nearly came off when CM Punk came out in wrestling gear for the first time in over seven years. It was clobberin time once again! Long tights were a choice, but Punk looked ready to go. Allin let the moment play out, and would stare Punk down. There was Holy Shit and This Is Awesome chants before they even locked up.
They’d lock up, and Allin took Punk down with an armdrag before a staredown. Punk would get a headlock, before Allin got a hammerlock applied. Able to slip free, Punk would hit a scoop slam and apply a rear chinlock. Allin would hit the ropes and leap up, almost taking a Go To Sleep after Punk caught him. He’d slip outside, find his head and get back into the ring.
Punk would take a springboard armdrag, before some lightning quick Coffin Splashes in the corner. Allin would be shot off across the ring, and collapsed to the outside. Back in the ring, CM Punk would look to apply a Bow & Arrow hold, but Allin would get the ropes. Punk was just keeping it simple thus far, a smart move with someone as reckless as Allin.
Darby Allin Gives His All
The cobra twist would be applied by Punk, before Allin broke free and took a Tilt-A-Whirl backbreaker. Back to the Cobra Twist, before Allin slipped free. A quick coffin splash and a cradle got a two count, before nailing a Code Red for a two count. Punk claimed he’d have that scouted on Rampage, but was wrong.
Allin would be taken up to the top rope for a backdrop, but would counter into a crossbody for a two count. Punk would recover and hit the GTS, only for Allin to spill to the outside. Back in the ring, Punk hit a big head kick and called for another GTS. Allin was some dead weight. He was just playing possum however, and battered his way out.
Punk was sent to the outside, and Allin launched himself with a wicked dive, before going for another. Back in the ring, Punk would dodge a Coffin Drop by sitting up, before being caught into a Crucifix Pin. He’d be lifted into the GTS, which was countered into Last Supper which got a near fall. A big leg lariat landed, and Punk followed up with GTS for the win.
Your first match back after such a long hiatus will rarely be a five star classic, and that was the case here. We got a damn solid back and forth match which built up and kept the crowd invested. It was exactly what fans wanted, and the emotional moment was enough to elevate this one hugely. Match Rating: 3.75/5 ()
