Over the years, Brock Lesnar has earned the ire of the fans for being a “part time” wrestler as he’d only put in important appearances while champion and would have a handful of matches a year.
There’s some substance to those claims, but Lesnar is more of an attraction than not as he’s a draw and needs to be seen occasionally instead of every week.
It’s a system that’s worked well for him and the WWE over the years, but it appeared Lesnar was done with the WWE when he didn’t resign.
The fact we didn’t see him in the WWE since his loss to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 36 only added to this belief, and it set up Lesnar’s return at SummerSlam perfectly.
While it’s been reported that Lesnar’s appearance was moved up for various reasons, he’s reportedly been signed for 18 months and at least eight matches, as reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, via dailyddt.com.
Big deal
With Lesnar’s appearance to close SummerSlam, it ended the pay-per-view with a big event to get people talking. Lesnar is someone people love to hate, but this time he came out as a face.
This is the first time that we’re aware of that he’s a face as he debuted mauling the Hardys and others and little had reason to change over the years as he’s an awesome heel.
But now that he’s challenging Roman Reigns, it’s going to be fun hearing fans cheer for him.
Just like Randy Orton, Lesnar can go from boos to cheer with a single gesture, and fans want someone to cheer for.
The WWE title scene is dominated by heels at the top on both brands, and this has helped faces like Big E grow even more into a fan favorite.
Lesnar to the rescue
Drew McIntyre was a great champion during the Thunderdome Era and he remains one of the most popular wrestlers on the roster, but Lesnar’s even bigger.
Every indication is that this will be a fun ride, and its obvious Lesnar will win the Universal Championship at some point and we’d love to see him be the one to end Reigns’ run.
Anyone else wouldn’t feel right after the way Reigns has been built up, and that would open the door for Big E and his Money in the Bank contract to begin a fresh rivalry between the two of them.
One thing’s for sure, and that Smackdown will belong to Reigns only until Lesnar arrives on the show.
How do you think things will work out? Will Brock Lesnar be the one to take over Smackdown and the Universal Championship? Let us know in the comments below.
