Lately there have been some big moves being made with WWE NXT. It’s been rebranded to NXT 2.0, given a new bright aesthetic, and new talent like Bron Breakker and Von Wagner made to be focal stars. This has all come while Triple H has been down and out due to cardiac issues. While rumors of Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard being in charge have been prevalent, there’s been a trusted friend at the helm in Shawn Michaels.
Vince McMahon Wasn’t Even In The Building, Shawn Michaels Was However
Coming from the Wrestling Observer Radio, we’d learn that Michaels has been the man running the show in NXT in the absence of Triple H. Vince McMahon did review the script for the show and was involved in the creative direction, but he was not the key man behind everything – and wasn’t even in attendance for NXT 2.0.
It’s likely this will be how things run until Triple H is healthy enough to return to his post. Right now, NXT 2.0 is a pet project of Vince McMahon, which will likely be seen in how the show is booked and presented in the coming weeks. For now, he’s got Michaels holding him back from complete control.
NXT 2.0 Has An Interesting Future Ahead
Once the fresh feeling of NXT 2.0 wears off for Vince McMahon however, we can expect a less interested approach. Fans assume it will be similar to WWECW back in the day, where the script would be made based on what the higher ups wanted, Vince looked it over, and then went on with his day. NXT could very well become hands off outside of some hand picked names like Von Wagner being focal points.
As for right now, NXT 2.0 seems to be fine. The first episode was a bit rocky at moments, namely with the heel turn of Carmelo Hayes coming out of nowhere and Von Wagner going from Zero to Hero – but it was still NXT at it’s core.
