In a match originally scheduled for the debut episode of NXT 2.0 – Raquel Gonzalez has her biggest test yet as NXT Women’s Champion. She has beaten some strong competition such as Io Shirai, Toni Storm, Dakota Kai, and Mercedes Martinez. However, Franky Monet is someone who can really match the size and power of Gonzalez, has much more experience, and Robert Stone & Jessi Kamea in her corner. For the first time ever, Gonzalez might well be the underdog.
Raquel Gonzalez Brings The Fight To Franky Monet
Gonzalez would hit the ring with intent to leave with the title – but Monet isn’t one to take a title match lightly. This one had a typical big match feel for NXT, and they’d lock up hard in a test of power to start. Monet would get Gonzalez down with a side headlock, but get lifted up and slammed down.
La Wera Loca would laugh it off and hit some strikes in the corner, before being thrown across the ring with a Fallaway Slam. Stone & Kamea would save her from the corner senton, but Gonzalez would take her right back into the ring for a spinning powerslam. Back to the outside, Monet would get a chance to get the upper hand, getting a slam onto the floor.
A suplex would get a two count, before Gonzalez took a knee to the back and got stretched on the mat before being stomped into the mat. She’d fire Gonzalez up and take some heavy lariats, before nailing the big senton in the corner. Gonzalez wanted the powerbomb, but the hurt back prevented this. However catching a spear would let her use the momentum of Monet to nail the powerbomb for the win.
A solid title match, but lacked the drama of past defenses. We don’t see female hoss fights often, but this was one for sure. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)
After the match, Toxic Attraction would take out Robert Stone Brand before swarming Gonzalez. Earlier in the night – Mandy Rose said she wanted the gold. They’d outnumber the champion and beat her down. No one came to her aid, and Mandy Rose could be set to take some gold. Will Rose be the next challenger?
