PlayStation showcase events announced new games, some of which are the best throughout the gaming industry. With Nintendo taking a backseat with announcements and Directs going massively down over the years. PlayStation has been the saving grace until the most recent State of Play that didn’t have many notable games to talk about.
The main games that stood out were the Little Devil Inside and also the latest Five Nights at Freddy’s. Apart from these two, there was nothing much to talk about. There is, however, a massive reason why this easily felt like the worst State of Play yet.
Focus on Indie games
The whole State of Play had a focus on indie games which definitely isn’t a bad thing. Some of the best games over the last couple of years have been indie games. But the promotion for this State of Play was focused on third party games.
At the moment, there are a lot of fans out there waiting for third party studios to show off more of their games. Final Fantasy 16 and Hogwarts Legacy were expected at the State of Play but instead focused on indie titles.
Weird timing for the State of Play
Then there’s the fact that the end of October is a weird time for an event like this that announces new games. There was realistically near to no chance of a massive announcement at this event that would be released before Christmas.
Everyone is currently focusing on Christmas time for games and everything that is releasing this year. So there usually aren’t that many announcements around this period of time. Apart from the Game Awards but that’s a whole different topic to get into in a couple of months.
