Disney is set to have a new Buzz Lightyear movie that would be a stand-alone project to the Toy Story movies, and by the looks of it, people have a lot to say about the matter.
Disney’s New Buzz Lightyear Movie Has Fans Divided-‘Idk Why But 2022 Buzz Is Definitely Racist’
The film, which is entitled ‘Lightyear, attempts to bring fans closer to the history of who Buzz was and how he became such an iconic figure. As part of that modern take, Chris Evans will take over as the voice of the character from Tim Allen.
In this story, Buzz will attempt to take down his arch-nemesis Zurg. Quite rightly, then, it has gotten a lot of excitement on social media.
One fan on Twitter wrote: “Not a big toy story or Disney/Pixar fan, but I’m excited for this. Only because I watched the animated buzz lightyear show on one Saturday morning.”
Nevertheless, not everyone was excited by the news. A certain subset of fans questioned the way in which the new Buzz looked. In the picture here, we can see that there are some differences between the original Buzz and the new one.
The new one can be seen with his hair visible, as well as having thicker eyebrows. Although it is an attempt to modernise Buzz, it has not gone down well with some fans.
One person said: “Idk why but 2022 Buzz is definitely racist,” while another remarked: “Buzz look like the cop that gave me a $600 speeding ticket for going four mph over the speed limit.”
Clearly, the animation has not been received well. But that does not mean that there is not plenty to look forward to. Many fans are revelling at the thought of Chris hitting the animation screen given how well he had done with his last superhero project, Captain America.
And if he can leave a legacy just as he did with that character, then fans will be in for a treat. In a post on Twitter, one fan could not hide their delight: “Can’t wait to see this on big screen.”
The movie is expected to be released on 17 June 2022, and that cannot come soon enough. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below. Remember to stay up to date with the latest news on TheOvertimer. Don’t forget to visit Screen Juicer for great videos, news, and gameplay!
