Should AEW Send Young Talents Out On Excursion?

Right now, we are seeing AEW build up a strong roster from top to bottom. They have respected veterans like Dustin Rhodes and Chris Jericho, names making their way to the status of legendary like CM Punk and Bryan Danielson, and people just getting started on their professional wrestling journey like Brock Anderson & HOOK. While training with the talent AEW has on hand would be a lot of experience for young wrestlers – but maybe AEW should pull a page from New Japan Pro Wrestling to get them truly ready?

Excursions Have Helped NJPW Create Major Stars

One of the reasons that NJPW is able to create such great wrestlers is due to a few factors. The dojo system is grueling, but gets their talents ready for the punishment of tournaments like the G1 Climax or main event strong style matches. However, it’s the mandatory excursions that allow their talents to be as well rounded as they are. Talents will be sent away from NJPW for a year or two, often to the UK or Mexico.

This allows them to learn a secondary style in addition to what NJPW provides, which is seen with Hiromu Takahashi being a blend of Strong Style & Lucha Libre. It simply helps to create wrestlers who are capable of doing much more than what they’d learn in one company. Even WWE recognizes this, and has often brought in stars from around the world to teach classes in the Performance Center.

AEW Already Has These Relationships Set Up

This wouldn’t even be hard for AEW to replicate. They already have a partnership with NJPW, as well as with AAA. It wouldn’t be hard to send Brock Anderson to do some time in NJPW, to really bring his hard hitting style out. Dante Martin being sent to Mexico would take his skills to the next level. This would even help to strengthen the relationships with these companies.

Even just short tours in Japan or taking classes in the LA Dojo would be huge for these young and developing talents. We could very easily see this play out as the world opens up more, and is a true benefit of the Forbidden Door that AEW has opened.

Which AEW names could benefit from an excursion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
