James Storm is one of the most entertaining and decorated wrestlers in Impact Wrestling history, and is also the first to reach 1000 wins for the company, but this day in wrestling history comes with a title win.
As many times as Storm has won gold, few are as cool his TNA World Heavyweight Championship win over Kurt Angle.
Spur of the moment build
It was a convoluted road for Storm as he was part of a tournament to get a shot at Kurt Angle, and he was one of the final four. Unfortunately for him, he lost by disqualification against Bully Ray at No Surrender.

After Robert Roode failed to defeat Kurt Angle for the title at Bound For Glory, Storm was given a title shot at the October 18 and October 20 TV tapings.
He talked about it in an interview, and our thanks to @awrestlinghistorian for the transcript.
“It was kind of like a last minute decision. I know Bobby as supposed to be going over on Kurt at (Bound For Glory) and I was watching the match and then that happened. I was just like “What happened?” The next day at TV is when they told me “We’re going to do a deal where we just put the belt on you” and I was like “Okay. Let’s do it. Okay. Cool.” I think both me and him was out of the blue because it was just changed so fast at a split second, but being the professionals we are, it don’t really bother us. We roll with the punches and keep going.” – James Storm, Wrestlerant interview, November 18, 2018.
Storm when on to defeat Angle in just over a minute, and then tried to hand the belt to Roode, saying it’s really his. Roode, who we later found out was insulted, handed it back and everything seemed fine.
Losing the title and Beer Money breaking up
As great as this win was, Storm would lose it Roode eight days later on the November 3 episode of Impact Wrestling. Roode broke Storm’s beer bottle over his head to win, and it also broke up Beer Money.
Still, that loss can’t take away from the moment James Storm enjoyed as TNA World Heavyweight Champion on this day in wrestling history.
