Recently, WWE was able to lock down a potential future megastar in Gable Steveson. The gold medal winning wrestler was signed a few months back, after showing up at Summerslam and getting to meet and take a picture with Vince McMahon. Vince was able to get into his ear, and get him to join WWE instead of Dana White and the UFC – and Steveson was then drafted to Monday Night RAW. However, don’t expect him to actually show up on the show anytime soon.
The Drafting Of Steveson Was Not A Surprise – And Didn’t Get The Wanted Attention
As noted first by Fightful Select – Gable Steveson was simply drafted to attempt to bring some surprise to the WWE Draft. He was not noted on draft pick image, which led to fans not expecting him to show up or be picked by either brand. Steveson was assigned to Monday Night RAW, and was shown again in the post draft image on the “Season Premiere”.
This was not a heavily guarded secret backstage or anything, as most of the talent, staff, and production crew reportedly knew the day before RAW that Steveson’s name would be mentioned. It also failed to really get WWE much traction like they had hoped, likely as fans already knew to not expect an immediate debut from the olympian.
Gable Steveson Planned To Debut At Wrestlemania 38
As for when to expect Steveson, early plans are for him to make his debut at Wrestlemania 38 in Dallas, Texas. This could be similar to the debut match of Ronda Rousey, which happened at Wrestlemania 34, in a tag team setting with established veterans in Kurt Angle & Triple H to make sure things remained on pace.
It’s unclear who Steveson could team with or face, or if he will just squash whatever heel isn’t busy at the time – but they are waiting for a major stage for him to make his debut. Right now, Steveson is completing his college education while still under WWE contract.
