WWE Smackdown Preview is set to kick off a new season as the WWE draft will not take effect and wrestlers moving from one brand to another will be limited to special rule introductions.
Those rules will come into effect to build for Survivor Series next month as the two brands will go head to head once again.
With some fresh blood mixed in with the old, thanks to some NXT call ups and the draft, things should get pretty interesting.
We’ll get some new matchups along with old ones we haven’t see for a year or two, and it should help freshen things up. We just hope their storytelling will get a refresher as well, so we’re crossing our fingers.
On top of a new era beginning, we’ll also be dealing with the aftermath of Crown Jewel where no surprises happened as champions and challengers were split by the draft.
There is still one that’s hanging around, and Brock Lesnar is going to cause all sorts of headaches for Roman Reigns.
Payback’s coming
Roman Reigns once again needed the help of his cousins to keep his title, and we’re estimating he owes them for at least half his title defenses.
They made such an impression on Brock Lesnar with the Universal Championship belt that he said, “The moment I arrive at SmackDown, I will beat Roman Reigns senseless.” as he boarded a plane to return to the United States.
This is curious as reports said he wasn’t scheduled to appear at a WWE event until the Royal Rumble in 2022, but reports can be wrong and this could easily be the case.
Unfortunately, we doubt Lesnar will cross Reigns’ path as he’ll run into Drew McIntyre first and the two of them will have a debate over who deserves a shot at the title.
We’re getting Seth Rollins and Edge vibes off of this one, and we’re hoping we’re wrong. But the WWE loves to reuse recent storylines in the same show, so it’s possible.
We may even get a match between the two, and that’s when Reigns and the Bloodline will attack and “injure” Lesnar.
If there’s one thing we’re sure of is the matches will be worthwhile as long as they’re allowed to tell a story and not just have a run in for half of them.
