It comes as no shock that many are not pleased with WWE right now. They have cut name after name from their contracts, while having record highs in terms of profits. This has even provoked Bryan Danielson to speak his mind, with him being someone who has strayed from saying much negative about WWE following his exit from the company.
Bryan Danielson Feels Talent Should Be Able To Inform WWE They Want Out
While speaking on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Danielson would speak about WWE and their release habits. He knows it all too well, being initially released in 2010 following the attack of The Nexus. You’re sent home, and you can’t work any TV for between 30 and 90 days, depending on your contract – but are still paid during this time. Danielson feels that talent should be able to give a 90 day notice, evening the odds.
“In some ways I get it, in some ways, I feel like it’s not right. It’s hard because my father-in-law is the head of talent relations. One of the things that I’ve always had a hard time with, and I’ve been fired from WWE twice so I kind of get this – it’s one thing if somebody does something bad but like for example, if you’re under a contract with WWE and you’re not happy or you’re not happy with the company or whatever it is, if they can fire you and give you 90 days, you should be able to give them 90 days to be released from your contract.”
Also in this interview, Danielson would reveal his AEW deal is for 3 years – and has the option to work with New Japan Pro Wrestling. He is hoping to be in a future G1 Climax, but AEW remains his priority.
Giving Talent A Lot More Control Wouldn’t Be Very WWE
This would give talent a lot more control over their position in WWE. So often talent request their release, and are denied – only for WWE to then either put them in limbo, like Luke Harper & Neville, or simply release you a few weeks later, like Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado.
Considering WWE employees are classed as “Independent contractors”, this is a power they should have. If WWE couldn’t figure out how to wrap up storylines or move titles around within 90 days of TV, that would be on them. Right now, things are looking bleak within WWE, with all but the top stars of the company seeming uneasy about the constant cuts. The talent having more control could help hold WWE more accountable, and have them on their best behavior – like WWE expect of their talent.
