Hideo Kojima—the creator of the Metal Gear franchise—looks to make an entry into music, film, and television. Death Stranding developer Kojima Productions now has a wing dedicated to telling stories outside of video games.
Hideo Kojima Pursuing His Love of Film and Music Beyond Games
Kojima originally formed Kojima Productions in 2005 where it was originally a developer under the video game creator’s long-time home of Konami. Originally wanting to be a movie director, he would join Konami in 1986.

He would deliver his first notable title—and his second game overall—in Metal Gear a year later on the defunct MSX console. After working on almost 40 games with the studio—some under the original Kojima Productions name—Hideo Kojima left in 2015.
After leaving the studio, he established the independent studio Kojima Productions with its first release being 2019’s Death Stranding, a game that continued the cinematic approach of his acclaimed Metal Gear Solid series.

The film and TV wing of the studio will be headed up by former long-time PlayStation chief legal officer and executive producer Riley Russell. In speaking with GameIndustry.biz, Russell said:
The team has as its charter, the goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions, and to make them, even more, a part of our popular culture.
Although we are a global organization, the new business development team will be centred in Los Angeles, CA. We are truly excited and looking forward to working with the very best entertainment talent we can, across all of the entertainment industries.
Since the film and television division was just formed, no projects have been announced.
