It’s been a tumultuous 2021 for many reasons, and the Flair family has had their share of moments as they’ve walked away from the WWE one by one until there’s one left.
Charlotte Flair is the lone standing Flair in the WWE, and recent activities have cause many to wonder if she’s on her way out to join her fiancé Andrade in AEW.
Andrade asked for his release in March and it was granted. He then signed with AEW and has appeared in various promotions like AAA since.
Ric Flair followed him a few months later in requesting his release and it too was granted, but then a previously settled sexual harassment accusation resurfaced from 20 or so years ago after the airing of Dark Side of the Ring’s “Plane Ride From Hell.”
Since then, his image and signature “WHOOO!” was removed from the opening of the WWE television shows. Thanks in large part to this, Ric has said he’ll never work for the WWE again, though mainly Nick Kahn.
Now it’s Charlotte’s turn. Or maybe not.
Staying put
Charlotte’s professional wrestling career has been about the WWE for the better part of her professional life, and she’s entrenched herself as the best female wrestler in the company and one of the best in the world in general
So, when the topic recently came up about her going to AEW on The Masked Man Show, she gave a relatively curt answer:
“I didn’t work this hard to just go, ‘Goodbye’.”
With roughly year left on her contract it’s doubtful she’ll request her release. We’d also like to think the WWE wouldn’t release one of their biggest stars for budgetary reasons, but we’ve seen them do that before.
Moving forward
It’s wise to never say never in professional wrestling, and this could simply be her protesting too much. But there’s one thing that looks to be in her favor in staying in the WWE, and it’s that Wrestlinginc.com pointed out that Andrade unfollowed her on social media.
This could be to distance himself from her to help protect her from being associated with him on that level to allow her an easier time in the WWE.
Whatever the reason is, we’re curious what’s to come for Charlotte. We’ll take her at her word, but things can change pretty fast.
Whichever course she takes, we’re thankful for all she’s given us and can’t wait to see where her career takes her.
