Since arriving in AEW, Bryan Danielson has been on one of the best runs of his career. It started with a huge debut at All Out 2021, and moved right into a historic 30 minute time limit draw between himself and Kenny Omega. Now, he’s on track to challenge for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship, which could put a target on his back – bringing the best of AEW right to him. He has spoken highly about the talented young roster of AEW, but has an interesting story to tell in regards to MJF.
MJF Can Not Be Caught With A Double Leg Takedown, Notes Bryan Danielson
While speaking about the talent of the AEW roster on Casual Conversations with The Classic – Bryan would eventually land on MJF. Right now, MJF is in a feud with CM Punk, one which is well on it’s way to being potentially one of the best AEW ever runs if their first promo battle is any indication. However, MJF made it clear he wants gold, and should Bryan defeat Hangman Page, that’ll put MJF on a course with Bryan Danielson.
Danielson has run into MJF backstage, where he’d take in the boastful nature of MJF – who claims he can not be taken down with a double leg takedown. The full quote is as follows.
“You got MJF, who is evolving what you would have called the standard heel act. But he’s evolving in a way that’s modern, and it doesn’t feel like he’s just out there being a heel, it feels like he’s an asshole. I talk to him and he’s kind of an asshole. He’s made the claim, and it’s so funny, that it’s impossible, there’s not anybody in this world who can double leg him.
He is susceptible to a single leg takedown, but nobody can double leg him because he’s the “Sprawl God.” He’s never been double-legged his entire amateur wrestling career. I was like ‘Oh, you must have had a pretty good amateur run?’ He like, ‘Ah, my last year was my freshman year of high school.’ I was like, ‘What?’ Making that kind of bold claim, it’s a lot of fun. I was like, ‘Okay.’ He is kind of this just turned up to eleven.”
Setting Up Potential Debut And Segments With His Boasting
Part of what makes MJF so great is he seems to always have his character on, which is rare in an era where kayfabe is considered long dead. While there is a chance MJF is just this self absorbed a-hole, and his character is just him being himself? Everyone just describes him as being turned up to 11.
Regardless, there have been no reports of him being hard to work with in big matches or anything like that – so MJF is at the very least a professional. His claim of being immune to double leg takedowns is hilarious, and could set up the AEW debut of someone like Chad Gable or Kurt Angle quite nicely. It’s little things like this which make MJF such a hateable heel – and thus the best in the business today.
