The Streak is something that WWE built up for many years. Year after year, people would step up to try and beat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania – and all would fall. Randy Orton, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, Ric Flair, Batista, and more all stepped up and got shut down. However at Wrestlemania 30 – Brock Lesnar finally did the impossible, and pinned The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Now, many years later – Undertaker himself wishes it was Roman Reigns who ended it.
The Undertaker Doesn’t Think Lesnar Needed That Win
Roman Reigns is the only other man to have a win over The Undertaker at Wrestlemania, one of the weaker matches in the history of The Streak. However, it felt like it meant a lot more than the win from Lesnar. It helped to establish Reigns as a major player, and it would have meant a lot more if Reigns was the first to do it – claims Undertaker as he spoke to Joey Hayden of the Dallas Morning News
“I don’t know that Brock needed that win. Brock was a bona fide superstar at that point. So, I don’t know that he needed it. Roman Reigns defeating Undertaker at WM33 definitely, that was the right call. I just wish he may have been first. I wish I could have reversed them, you know what I’m saying? If Roman would have been able to do it, I think it would have increased the value.”
In The End, Everything Was Seemingly Meant To Boost Reigns
In the end, this was meant to benefit Reigns. At Wrestlemania 31 – Reigns was to dethrone Lesnar. He was going to beat the man who broke the streak, adding another layer to the accomplishment. However, fans having a negative reaction to Reigns winning the Royal Rumble in 2015 had some changes made to these plans, with Seth Rollins cashing in – creating an iconic moment.
Nothing can change the past now, but do you think Reigns being the first to beat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania would have been the right play? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
