The Tommy Fury camp are claiming that Jake Paul is refusing to take a drug test in the lead-up to their scheduled boxing match. Fury and Paul are set to clash in the ring on December 18, in Tampa, Florida.
Tommy Fury’s father and coach, John Fury, lashed out at the YouTuber for failing to sign up for VADA, or Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, testing for their fight.
Tommy Fury Claims Jake Paul Declined Drug Testing
“There’s all kinds of stuff in the contract, as you’ve got to do this and you’ve got to do that. I could go into it more and more, but I don’t want to bore people with the politics. They wouldn’t sign up to the VADA testing as well.
That bothered me a little bit because I wanted that in the contract, but they wouldn’t do that. I’m not even bothered about that, because of what they’re going to do, they’re going to do anyway.
We just want the fight because we know we can win it. People think that Tommy’s getting paid to lose, they’re joking. A Fury would rather be put to death than go down that road.”
Jake Paul’s last opponent, former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, similarly accused the YouTuber-turned-boxer of declining drug tests. Regardless, it seems that camp Fury still sees the fight as an easy win for Tommy, who John Fury appears to be grooming for a championship in the future.
Tommy Fury will be the first professional boxer – albeit one who may be more famous for his reality TV appearances – to face Jake Paul in the ring. While Jake Paul boasts an undefeated boxing record, his most notable fights were against retired mixed martial artists, and wrestlers at that.
Paul famously knocked Ben Askren out, and followed that fight with a decision win over Tyron Woodley. Although Woodley was arguably Paul’s most dangerous opponent so far, Tyron Woodley was well past his prime and was best known as a wrestler who happened to have knockout power in his right hand.
Tommy Fury, on the other hand, is an undefeated professional boxer from a serious pedigree. His older brother, Tyson Fury, is the world heavyweight champion, having recently knocked Deontay Wilder out in their trilogy fight. Tommy Fury’s record boasts seven wins, four of which came via knockout.
Also critical to this fight is that Tommy Fury is probably the closest opponent to Paul’s natural weight, as Jake Paul’s hulking two-hundred-pound frame towered over the likes of Askren and Woodley.
