Following his removal from Jackson-Wink MMA, Jon Jones has issued a response. Jones was arrested following his UFC Hall of Fame induction in Las Vegas on charges of domestic violence. Over the course of being arrested, he repeatedly headbutted a police vehicle, adding damage to the vehicle to his list of charges.
Jones took to Twitter to express his feelings on the Jackson-Wink situation, and thanked those who have stuck by his side.
Jon Jones Denies Assaulting Fiancee, Reacts to Getting Kicked Out of Gym
“Had a heartbreaking conversation over the phone with one of my longtime coaches last night, really hurts to lose the support of someone I respect so much. Sincere thank you to the rest of the coaches for staying in the fight with me. Our journey continues..”
Jon Jones continued, denying that he ever hit his fiancee and that his children were unaffected by their “confrontation”.
“I love how people are imagining the worst possible situation in their heads and making it somehow factual. I never hit my fiancé and our daughters were woken up after our confrontation.
My daughters didn’t see or hear us arguing. That’s really the only thing I care to clarify.. outside of that, looking forward to moving forward without alcohol. It’s the first time in my life where I’m actually ready to quit. Glad to have the support of my fiancé, family friends and fans.”
Jones also responded to a fan pointing out that actions speak louder than words.
“Yep I totally understand that, that’s why I’m not going to do some big PR stunt, hire a publicist. I’m not gonna do anything like that. I know it’s real. I know that I’m ready. Time will take care of the rest.”
Jon Jones was kicked out of Jackson-Wink MMA following his arrest. His head coach, Mike Winkeljohn, pointed out that Jones needed to quit drinking and get his act together. The gym provides women’s safety and self-defense classes, and having an athlete facing domestic violence charges would contravene this ethos.
This isn’t Jon Jones’ first run-in with the law. Jon Jones was arrested earlier in his career for his involvement in a hit-and-run which left a pregnant woman injured at the scene. This incident led the UFC to strip Jones of his light heavyweight title. His career has been beleaguered by alcohol and drug abuse for years, and whether the UFC sanctions Jones after this latest incident remains to be seen.
