We’ve noticed over the last few weeks how there’s been something different about Big E.
He hasn’t been doing his gyrations and we assumed it was a character shift to a more serious role, but it appears the WWE received complaints about him.
The timing is curious as he’s been doing it for years, so we think it had to do with him winning the WWE Championship and being the face of the Raw brand. Children would look up to him and that could upset some parents.
Oddly enough, Jim Cornette went on a tear on his podcast about it and Big E’s juvenile attitude after he won, and it looks like things have taken a turn since then thanks to some emails.
Complaints arise
Big E recently said that the WWE received emails from people who wanted him to be taken off television due to his gyrating. Special thanks to Sportskeeda.com for the transcript.
“People are allowing me to do this, so I just kept doing stuff. And people enjoy it, or didn’t yell at me, so I was like, ‘Let’s keep going.’ I was told there were a couple of times where the company got some emails, I don’t know if it’s like FCC [Federal Communications Commission], something where people complained and wanted me off TV because the gyrations were too much. Me, Elvis [Presley], there’s no real difference there!”
As we mentioned, his gyrating has been part of his character for years, so either people have always complained and they simply piled up or things became more intense.
It’s not the first time a WWE Superstar has gyrated as part of their character, with two of the most famous being Rick Rude and Val Venis.
Rude was an awesome heel and he did it to incite the fans, and Venus was a porn star character that was also a heel, and this is where we think the problem for some start.
Big E’s a face and has been for a while, and while a heel expects heat from the fans or sponsors for something they do, a face, especially a champion, is automatically held to higher standards.
We could be wrong, but that makes sense to us. An interesting thing to note is Big E mentioned Elvis Presley.
After complaints were received by the Ed Sullivan Show for his gyrations, and when Ed Sullivan brought him back the camera focused on him from the waist up.
Is there a way the WWE can work around it or should they allow Big E to continue what he’s done for years? Let us know in the comments below.
