At this point, it is no surprise that WWE released a lot of their talent in 2021. Over 80 names were cut from the roster, including some who seemed to be the future of the company. One such name was 27 year old Jake Atlas – who was cut from the company just as they started to pursue younger talents.
Jake Atlas Took Time Off Following Ring of Honor Debut
After being released, Atlas would have a single high profile showing Ring of Honor. At Death Before Dishonor XVIII, he’d wrestle Taylor Rust in a losing effort. Soon after, Atlas would take some time off for the sake of his mental health. Many viewed this as Atlas retiring – but this doesn’t seem to actually have ever been the case.
During a time when work for professional wrestlers is sparse, it was the right time to take a step back. However, fans don’t have to worry about losing an up and coming star – as all signs seem to point towards Atlas now being signed to AEW.
Tony Khan Came Out To Congratulate Him Following His Match With Serpentico
Last night, AEW would run some tapings for AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation. During this, Jake Atlas would make his AEW debut. After the match, Tony Khan himself would come out to congratulate Atlas – seemingly indicating that he has been signed.
To those who have followed AEW for a long time, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Back when AEW was starting up, Atlas was someone who they were trying to sign – even being viewed as a bigger prospective star than Jungle Boy. Seeing as Jungle Boy is undisputed as one of the pillars of AEW, this says a lot about how highly they view Atlas.
While his WWE run scratched the surface of what Atlas is capable of, we could truly see him shine in AEW as a major player. Do you think Atlas is a smart signing for AEW?
