We all have storylines we love, hate, or are meh to, but rarely is it based on a wig. In this case, it appears the execution of a storyline combined with a really, really bad wig brought out Vince’s.
At Steel City con, Kane and JBL were sharing a table when the topic of Vince taking out his frustrations on the talent.
We’re referencing the Imposter Kane angle in 2006 that coincided with the real Kane (Glenn Jacobs)’s movie, See no Evil, being released.
The backstage story is as funny as the storyline we saw was bad.
Backstage fun
A week after the movie’s release, Imposter Kane attacked the real Kane and they faced each other at Vengeance and the storyline was thankfully quickly forgotten by the WWE.
The reason for it was Vince McMahon because the storyline was badly done and the wig they gave Luke Gallows (Imposter Kane) to wear was just… wrong.
A fan that claimed Gallows is a friend of his said he was told Vince would come down on wrestlers when they made mistakes, Kane said it hadn’t happened to him and he witnessed Vince’s anger toward the producers.
Especially with this debacle.
It’s about presentation
There can be the awesomest storyline in history, but if the presentation is bad it’ll often tank, and since Vince built the WWE on having higher production values than the competition a bad presentation is the ultimate sin.
“So, I’d gone down and seen Drew’s outfit and stuff, and we’d kind of worked a little bit together before he debuted as that — down where NXT was at that time in Georgia — and he’s wearing this wig, and it was like a synthetic hair wig, and it was terrible.
“They didn’t switch the wig, and there he is on live TV with this frizzy hai, and Vince went ballistic. Not at him, but at the fact that the thing looked silly and that was actually why that whole thing was ditched was because Vince thought it made such a terrible first impression.”
While this made the production and creative team look bad, it also hurt Kane’s performance as it came off as more of a goof than anything serious, and it’s an angle that may be best forgotten by most fans.
We’re grateful Kane’s career was so full of awesome moments that this is more of a blip than anything, but the storyline had so much potential we’re curious where it would’ve gone.
